Anne & Anson Engagement; OSU Campus

Wedding season is in full swing and it is the perfect time to go outside with your sweetie and have some fun pictures taken!  I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with Anne and Anson at The Ohio State University!  They showed me all around campus (along with their two Bull Mastiff dogs and one great friend who was the designated dog walker!).  We had a such a great time stopping along all the classic OSU spots for some super cute engagement pics.  Here are just a few of my favorites from our day!

I love the classic red, white and blue in this photo and of course their awesome smiles!

This is such a sweet moment.  Nothing makes me happier then when I can capture a truly loving moment.

I love love love this picture of Anne!  It is so natural and timeless.

Everybody loves a little snuggle moment!

This has to be my favorite photo from the day!  I love the awesome architecture of the building along with the sweet embrace and kiss.

Congratulations Anne & Anson!  We can't wait to see you for the big day in September!

My interview in Bespokezine.com!

I am so thrilled to have in my hands today the beautiful Bespokezine Issue 3!  Inside this little treasure are some great interviews and tutorials with fellow artists and I am lucky enough to be included with them.  To get your own copy of bespokezine please visit the link provided!

A few blog post back I gave the story of how I was selected to be apart of this issue that is made all the way on the other side of the world in Australia!  The talented Megan Eckman wrote a wonderful article for this issue titled "Black is the New Colour" and she did a super job of taking my words and images and creating such a lovely article.

A big Thank-You again goes out to Megan and Bespoke for telling my tale.  And I would also like to thank John and Elizabeth Fergus-Jean (just two of my wonderful professors from CCAD) for the years of listening, mentoring, and molding me into the artist I am today!  I am forever grateful!

Below is the except from the article which was written about me along with a few of my images.  All of my Fine-Art photography can be viewed and purchased through my Etsy site, pinkphoto.etsy.com.

Excerpt from "Black is the New Colour" by Megan Eckman:

Julie Linz, the artist behind pinkphoto, maintains her love affair with that dark room, and her haunting work is truly all the more breathtaking for it.  Skirts and figures play in and out of grainy focus in her series, "The Twist", taking the viewer back to glass plate negatives and the timeless work of Julia Margaret Cameron.

"I started photographing in high school with a roll of Kodak 35mm and a borrowed SLR camera," says Julie.  "What grabbed me right from the start was the process of creating a photograph.  The gurgle of the baths, the smell of the fixer, the glowing amber light, and the waiting.  The waiting for something to literally transform in front of my eyes.  Starting from only an idea and an image in a viewfinder and ending with a physical work of art.  It was magic.

My fine art work is moody and dark.  Haunting images that lead you down a path you may be hesitant to  follow.  Nothing shocking, nothing disturbing, not what nightmares are made of, but haunting in the best way:  memorable.  And when the idea surges into my head, the images is already a part of my subconscious.  I know instinctively how to tell that story.  Black and white and all the amazing notes in between represents that wonderful mix of reality and dream.  The choice of black and white is no longer a choice, it is an instinct that I could not turn off it I wanted to.  And believe me, there will never come a day when I want to."

Meghan & Andrew Engagement; North Bank Park

I received a lovely email from Meghan a few months ago asking if I would photograph her engagement session.  She loved my work and it was truly one of the nicest emails I have ever received.  Of course I jumped at the opportunity to do a fun shoot with Meghan and her fiance Andrew at North Bank Park.   And let me tell you this couple made my job way to easy!  They are so cute together and really were the perfect models.  When I talk about my style being a mix of posed and candid this is exactly what I mean.  I would set up the shot and these two would do the rest!  And boy you can tell just how crazy they are about each other in all of their photos!

I love this photo of Meghan and Andrew.  It is close and natural and really captures their energy!

I think this has to be one of my all time favorite images to date.  This is really that tender moment where I was just an observer with a camera and this loving couple did what came naturally.

This picture made me smile as soon as I saw it.  I love the little smirk on Meghan's face and the HUGE laugh from Andrew.  I don't know what she said to make him laugh so hard but I'm sure this is a house full of fun and good times!

And of course Andrew can make Meghan laugh just as hard too!  Must be the secret to this relationship!

This was the last stop on our shoot at Boston's Pizza in the Arena District.  And this story wouldn't be complete without me thanking this awesome couple again for the beer and pizza they bought me right after this photo was taken!

Congratulations Meghan & Andrew!

Laura & Jason Engagement; Darby Creek Park

The best compliment I can get is a referral from a happy client and that's why I am so grateful to Kelly and George for referring me to Laura  & Jason!  I met Laura & Jason on a cold, snowy February night (remember cold and snow?!) and I got the chance to hear all about their upcoming August wedding in Twinsburg.  I can't tell you how excited I am to shoot their wedding in just a few short months (I hear there is even going to be fireworks!!)

I shot Laura & Jason's engagement session at Battelle Darby Creek Park, a place they both like to go to run together.  It's so nice to get to photograph a couple in an environment they love and it makes for really natural photographs.  Below are just a few of my favorite pics from our day together.

This was the second photograph I took!  Let's just say these two are naturals!

This has to be my favorite photo of Laura!  I love her sweet smile and beautiful eyes (and Jason makes a pretty good prop too!)

It may have been close to 90 degrees that day but it didn't stop these two from snuggling close for this great photo!

I remember the first time I saw Laura's ring (it is just lovely) I asked Jason if he had picked it out on his own. He told me that Laura was with him when they selected the ring because he didn't want her to just have a ring she liked, he wanted her to have a ring she LOVED.  What a great answer and a beautiful ring!

Congratulations to this awesome couple!  See you in August for the big day!

Bespokezine.com Article!!!

I am super excited to announce this little sneak peak from Bespokezine.com featuring some of my fine-art black & white images and an interview with me!!!  The zine doesn't come out until June but a group of my images are featured on their teaser page right now!  I am one happy little artist!

I was approached in February by one of Bespokes writers, Megan Eckman from studiomme.com.  She had discovered me through my Etsy shop pinkphoto.etsy.com and had been of a fan of my fine-art photography!  I received a nice email from her asking if she could interview me for an article she was writing for bespoke about why artists choose to use Black & White to create their images.  It was a simple enough question, but it took a ton of thought and questioning of myself to come up with the right answer that spoke of me and my creative process.  Along with my interview I submitted several of my favorite Black & White photographs to accompany the article!

Below is a sneak peak page that bespoke posted on their site today and my images make up the entire left hand side of the title page!  I am just bursting at the seams.  Many of your know me for my wedding and portrait work but I am and have always been a fine art photographer at heart.  I went to CCAD to study photography and my years of work there really focused my abilities to create and tell a story through images.  I am proud of my work and proud of the years that I have spent dedicating myself to making art!

A big THANK-YOU goes out to Megan and Bespoke for taking the time to tell this artists story!

Fine Art 2011 March Piece

My fine-art piece for March is a little buried treasure I found tucked away in a box of old film negatives I shot that I never made contact sheets for! I'm so excited I found this roll taken with an antique camera I rigged to shoot 120 film! I can't wait for the day I can print this picture lifesized!

All Fine-Art images can be purchased from my etsy.com site pinkphoto.etsy.com
